ReelGuard Privacy Policy
ReelGuard (“the app”) is made by mrprohack. This policy explains what the app does with your data.
Summary
ReelGuard has no account, no server of its own and no analytics. Your reel counts, settings and everything the Accessibility service sees stay on your phone. The free version shows one ad banner (Google AdMob), and the optional ad-free subscription is handled by Google Play.
Accessibility service
ReelGuard uses the Android Accessibility Service API to detect when you are watching short videos in Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat and Facebook. The app uses this to count them and to enforce the limits you set.
- It reads screen content only in those apps, and only what it needs to tell one video from the next.
- In other apps it only notes which app is in the foreground. The floating counter uses this to hide itself.
- It does not record text you type, messages, passwords or any other screen content.
- None of this information leaves your device.
The app explains this and asks for your consent before it takes you to the Accessibility settings.
Data stored on your device
- Reel counts: which supported app, the time, and how long each video was on screen.
- Phone unlock times, used for the “unlocks vs yesterday” figure.
- Your settings: limits, goals, chosen challenge, and the floating counter’s position.
This data lives in the app’s private storage and is not backed up (allowBackup is off). Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data, deletes all of it.
Ads (free version)
The free version shows a banner ad on the Today screen using Google AdMob. AdMob may collect your device’s advertising ID, IP address, approximate location and ad interaction data to serve and measure ads. Where the law requires it (for example the EEA and UK) the app asks for your consent first. You can reset or opt out of ad personalisation in Android Settings → Google → Ads. Ads are never shown on the lock screen or during unlock challenges, and never use anything the Accessibility service reads. See Google’s policy.
Subscription
ReelGuard Pro (₹99 per month, price varies by country) removes ads. Payment is processed entirely by Google Play, and the app never sees your payment details. The app only asks Google Play whether your subscription is active. You can cancel any time in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions.
Other permissions
- Display over other apps: shows the floating counter and the lock screen when you reach a limit.
- Notifications: the daily summary and the floating-counter service notification.
- Physical activity: counts steps for the optional “walk” unlock challenge. It does not store step data.
- Run at startup: restarts the floating counter after a reboot.
- Internet and advertising ID: used only by the ad banner and Google Play Billing.
Children
ReelGuard is not directed at children under 13 and collects no data from anyone.
Your rights and deletion
Because the app keeps your data only on your phone, you can delete all of it at any time by clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling it. We hold no copy and have nothing to delete on a server.
